Spain was featured as one of the top destinations for weddings by Wedding Ideas Magazine this month, and The Wedding Guide of Spain was asked for our top tips to getting married abroad. We weren't the only ones to be featured.... one of our advertisers, Stacy from Weddings In Spain shared some great advice with brides planning a wedding in SPain. You can read Stacy's blog here.

Picking a theme for your wedding in Spain is a way to express your sense of style for your special day. Most brides pick a theme colour and co-ordinate accessories and decorations. But why not be a little more daring and choose a fun and elaborate theme for your wedding.

A beach wedding is a traditional theme for weddings in Spain, and you can add shells, hurricane lamps for a seaside feel at your reception.

Or opt for a glamourous crystal themed wedding, with lots of sparkling cut glass and table gems. Add diamantes to your invitations and place settings. Add plenty of candles and enjoy the light bouncing off all those facets.

A Spanish wedding theme can be a fun idea for a wedding held in Spain, but be sure to avoid going overboard. There is sometimes a fine line between tasteful and tacky!

Las Vegas is almost as well known for it's spontaneous, wacky weddings as it is for it's casinos. So it is no surprise that the new European entertainment complex to be built in Spain, and based on the famous American 'sin city' may include weddings chapels to cater to a similar trend.

The new city is to be build in a stretch of desert in Aragon, East Spain, and plans include 32 hotels, 5 theme parks, a stadium and conference centre. Plenty of places to choose from to hold a wedding and reception, even without wedding chapels!

The city's location is close to the Zaragoza airport, which offers low cost flights from several airlines. No doubt we will see wedding planners across Spain offering packages to this location as soon as it is completed. Official plans will be released in the next few weeks, and we will keep you posted with any tentative completion dates.

I am thrilled to have won the Company Women Business Woman of the Year Award for Bright Idea for Innovation, for The Wedding Guide.

This award means a lot not just to me, but to all of the wedding suppliers who have supported the business over the past year. I hope that it will bring a lot of publicity for all of the wedding planners, photographers, celebrants, venues and much more who are listed in our national directory of wedding suppliers across Spain, as well as help us to promote weddings and blessings in such a beautiful country.

Everyone had a wonderful evening at the glamourous, first ever, Company Women Awards Ceremony, held at the Thalasia Hotel in San Pedro, and we look forward to attending the 2008 Awards for another glittering evening!

I will no doubt write a more complete blog in days to come, but for now am still recovering from the excitement and celebration of the weekend!

Our little corner at the This Is Spain exhibition this weekend was a great hit. We had lots of enquiries, and it was very nice to meet all of the people who stopped by.

Our free Cava was flowing, and the delicious cupcakes from Cake Magic dissapeared... well, like magic!

The dress supplied by Kristina Bridal was much admired, and two visitors even drove away from the exhibition happily on their way to visit the shop to find gowns.

We will be having a larger stand at future exhibitions, incorporating many of our wedding suppliers, so that brides can meet and talk to photographers, celebrants, entertainers and more.

Keep an eye on our events page for more upcoming events featuring The Wedding Guide.

After literally months and over 100 meetings Gran Canaria Weddings and Celebrations SL has managed to persuade the authorities in Gran Canaria to make it easier for couples either wishing to get legally married or have civil partnerships anywhere on the Island

Before the changes were made, if a couple wished to be married here they would have to visit 3 separate occasions in one year to complete paperwork and fulfil residency requirements which was ridiculous, expensive and off putting

Couples of the same sex were also told they couldnt have their love for each other legally done as tourists here as they were told that gay marriage wasnt valid outside Spain!

So Gran Canaria Weddings then tackled that issue and established that people were being told the wrong information by the local authorities, and we have confirmation now that a Gay Marriage in Spain is legally recognised as a Civil Partnership in the UK and other european countries where the union of a gay couple is legally recognised as well, which is a welcome boost for an Island which is a mecca for Gay Couples as well due to its liberal views and openeess for all people

Under the new arrangements, Gran Canaria Weddings and Celebrants is able to present all of the legal documents on behalf of the couples using a power of attorney type system and thus saving the couples considerable amounts of money as well.

I have to admit that when I came up with the idea of a central place for brides to find information about getting married in Spain, I didn't realise that the project would get so big so fast.

I am quite ambitious, in that I enjoy the challenge of building something from scratch, and am a real believer that the higher you aim, the higher you get.

I am thrilled to be working with some really dedicated wedding service providers, and get a buzz everytime I get something featured in a magazine or website about weddings in Spain. I really love my job.

So it is a real honour to have other people recognize the success of the business. As the founder and editor of The Wedding Guide España, I have been nominated for a Business Woman of the Year Award by Company Women, a networking group for business women in Spain. I am happy to say that I am now a finalist in the Bright Ideas for Innovation category.

The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony, being held at Thalasia Spa Hotel in San Pedro Del Pinatar, Murcia in November.

If you subscribe to our e-zine (and you should!) then you will already have heard the news that our Photo Gallery is now live.

You can see folders of images from suppliers, as well as some albums of weddings in Spain. We will be constantly adding folders to this feature, to show scenery of Spain, wedding images, and more images from our suppliers.

The Photo Gallery feature is quite easy to use... simply select a folder from the drop down menu on the right. Once the images are loaded, you can drag and drop the thumbnail polaroid images into the big screen to see the full size image.

Thumbnails of all images that you have viewed are stored on the right hand side of the menu, letting you put together images of wedding dresses, bridal jewellery, and locations to get an overall feel for how your wedding might look.

Want to show off your own photographs from your wedding in Spain? Drop us a line, and we'll be happy to add a folder for your real life wedding. Share your wedding photos with other brides on our site, and family and freinds.

If you are considering getting married abroad, the chance are that you are considering having two celebrations. One abroad, and one in your home country.

Many brides have two full ceremonies, or one ceremony and another party so that all freinds and family can join in the celebration of their wedding.

However, a famous Indian celebrity couple have gone a step further.

Artist, Raghava KK and his violinist girlfriend have been busy jetting all over the world for 12 weddings.

Each wedding is in a different country, and has a different theme. They will be coming to Spain in the near future to celebrate number 11.

We have so much that we are working on, but here are some of the top items on the list that are almost ready...

Photo Galleries - real life weddings, top locations, wedding dresses and more!
Wedding Map - This one has taken longer than I hoped, but soon, we should be able to pinpoint any supplier in your area.
Wedding Shop - Yes, it's coming soon! We are hunting down all of the best, and some of the most original products you could want for your wedding in Spain. From stationery, to favours to great gift ideas, we have it all.

Be sure to sign up to our e-zine on our website to be kept up to date as these great new features launch!

It is a sad day for the wedding industry in Spain.  Maria Von Staufen,  founder of Mallorca Weddings, sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Maria was an amazing lady;  a true inspiration and a dedicated wedding planner.

' I cannot think of a nicer business than to be able to help couples have a lovely romantic Wedding Day to remember forever.' - Maria

She will be sorely missed by freinds, family and the many, many brides who she helped to make their day special.

There has been a lot of talk lately about the new Pronovias 08 collection. With plenty of frills, and Hollywood glamour, getting married has never been so stylish!

We asked Kristina Bridal what they thought about new trends for brides...

"brides are showing alot of interest in bridal gown with coloured trim. This Alfred Angelo bridal gown (see image to the right) is our best seller this year and with 46 different colour varieties we have sold, ivory/burgundy and ivory/champagne as our best sellers but also the more unusual white with black trim and ivory / brown.

Our other designer Trudy lee have a fantastic range of full & straight gowns one in particular is becoming a favourite for 2008 weddings." (see image to the top left.)

There has been a lot of buzz about the new Pronovia's 08 collection. Plenty of frills and fuss, and a really elegant feel.

Brides now have more choice than ever, and if Hollywood glamour is your style, then you are in luck with many designers.

We asked local bridal shop, Kristina's Bridal what was hot for next season's brides.

Hi all, and welcome to The Wedding Guide España Blog!

My name is Angel, and I am the founder and editor of TWGE project. I love weddings, and I spend hours each day visiting wedding websites, chatting to suppliers, touring hotels and restaurants, and reading bridal magazines. I wanted to create a more personal way to pass on snippets on information and advice to brides planning a wedding in Spain.

I will also be giving you an informal look at what we get up to behind the scenes in the wedding industry in Spain, and what I have planned for the future of The Wedding Guide España. (aaahh, this is only the beginning!)

I hope to post often, but if you don't hear from me in a while, be sure to give me a freindly cyber-reminder by emailing me at angel@theweddingguide.eu
